COMMUNITY DISCERNMENT AS A FUNDAMENTAL METHOD OF IMPLEMENTING SYNODALITY IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH AS INTENDED BY POPE FRANCIS
Summary
This article is a synthetic attempt to show the new elements that Pope Francis introduces when he presents his understanding of the realisation of synodality in the life of the Church. He exposes discernment as a fundamental method for the synodal Church, which can be seen in his teaching since the beginning of this pontificate. The text comprises four parts. The first sets out short the general ecclesiological assumptions of the present Synod on synodality. The second shows spiritual discernment itself as a method throughout history, and the third the application of this method in the life of the Church in Francis’ teaching. The last focuses on the sensus fidei as the theological ground of the synodal discernment process. The conclusion reveals the purpose of the application of discernment in the vision of the synodal Church as intended by Francis.

SAINT AUGUSTINE AND THE SYNODS OF NORTH AFRICA AT THE TURN OF THE 4TH AND 5TH CENTURIES
Summary
The synodal activity of the Church in North Africa at the Turn of the 4th and 5th Centuries, although on the one hand is astonishing with its dynamic development, on the other hand, also highlights the multiplicity and scope of problems that the African Church faced. Such outstanding pastors as, in particular, the Bishop of Carthage and the Primate of Proconsular Africa, Aurelius (391‒430) and the Bishop of Hippo, Augustine (396‒430), made synods an effective weapon in the fight against the Donatist schism and the heresy of Pelagianism. No less important matters of the synodal meetings convened at that time were matters related to the discipline of the clergy, the liturgy and the life of the Church. Synods (concilia) enjoyed their own seriousness and authority (auctoritas). Plenary synods in particular played a significant role among them. As a manifestation of episcopalcollegiality, they shed a lot of light on the relationship of African bishops to the Bishop of Rome, and are also a testimony to African ecclesial specificity and autonomy.

SYNODALITY IN THE THEOLOGY OF VATICAN II
Summary
Since the publication of the apostolic constitution Episcopalis Communio in 2018 by Pope Francis, the institution of the Synod of Bishops has received a profound reinterpretation of the scope of its formula. The current Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops - dedicated to the theme - For a Synodal Church Communion, Participation and Mission - raises many fundamental questions about the proper theological understanding of the Synod of Bishops. The reference in all these topical questions to the discussions of the Second Vatican Council is undoubtedly right and advisable. It was at this Council that the framework of how the Synod of Bishops and its first vocation should be understood was shaped. The analysis of this study therefore leans towards the basic elements of the theology of synodality that were introduced into the ecclesiology of the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, and these are issues such as the people of God, the Church as communio ecclesiarum, and episcopal collegiality. However, as this analysis shows, the conciliar formulation of all these important themes and reflections for a renewed ecclesiology does not mean that the theology of synodality of Vaticanum Secundum had no limitations. The very establishment of the Synod of Bishops in 1965 by Pope Paul VI and the elaboration of the motu proprio Apostolica sollicitudo did not take place through the collaboration of the Pope with the bishops still gathered at the Council. The scope of the Synod of Bishops, according to the will of Paul VI, was given only a consultative function, whereas the intention of the majority of the Council Fathers was to give this synod an effective collegiality.

THE MISSIONARY NATURE OF THE CHURCH IN JOHN PAUL II'S ENCYCLICAL REDEMPTORIS MISSIO IN THE FACE OF THE VOICES OF THE AMAZON SYNOD
Summary
The subject of the study is the theme of the missionary nature of the Church presented and shown in a new light in a deepened and adapted to the challenges of the end of the 20th century by Saint John Paul II in the encyclical Redemptoris missio. Today, a special opportunity to undertake this issue and to present it in the current historical and ecclesial context is the 30th anniversary of its announcement (December 7, 1990). The presentation of its contents and their analysis highlighted the uninterrupted continuity of Christ's missionary command and the unchanging relevance of the message contained in the document regarding the proclamation of the Gospel and the baptism of all people. The necessity of recalling this topic appears inevitably, taking into account the internal condition of the Church, as a result of which the mandate entrusted to all Christians loses its power and seriousness. As a result, due to the weakening of missionary awareness and responsibility manifesting itself within the Church, it seems necessary and absolutely essential to remind and refer to the encyclical of John Paul II in order to awaken among Catholics the awareness of the mission of announcing the Gospel given to them.

TEN THESES ON THEOLOGY OF SYNODALITY
Summary
The ongoing in the Catholic Church Synod on synodality is surrounded by many different controversies. The innovative form of the synod, in the Synod of Bishops deliberates within a broader body with yet to be defined competences, announcements of significant changes both in the teaching of the Church and in her structure, awake among many Catholics hope for awakening new dynamism in the Church, but also fear of breaking continuity with Tradition and the loss of the Christian proprium. At the source of these new hopes and anxieties lies a question: what is really the synodality to which Pope Francis calls the Church? This text tries to answer this question; this answer is based on the best theological text that has been written on this topic in recent years, the 2018 document of the International Theological Commission Synodality in the Life and Mission of the Church. The most important statements of this document will be presented in the form of ten theses, which concern, among others: the historical and theological sources of the concept of synodality, the renewed ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council, practical ways of implementing synodality, the structure of power and co-responsibility in the Church, the conditions and criteria of the authenticity of the synodal process.

SINODALITY IN THE TEACHING AND PONTIFICATE OF JOHN PAUL II
Summary
The article presents the issue by showing the relationship of synodality with collegiality, with the ecclesiology of communion, with the renewal of the Church and with the new evangelization. John Paul II's understanding of synodality was influenced by his participation in the Second Vatican Council and the Council's debate on collegiality. With the reception of the Council's doctrine through local synods and the Synod of Bishops, the connection of synodality with the collegiality of the bishops and at the same time with the community of the Church working together with the hierarchy became apparent. The Pope referred to synods as a “school" of ecclesial communion and mission. The formation of an attitude of participation in Christ's mission played an important role in creating communion. Synodal interaction between bishops, clergy and laity, thanks to this theological grounding, leads to a synthesis of ecclesial structures with the attitude of mature faith. In this way synods, or synodal practice, become important “instruments" for the realization of the Church's communion and the intensification of her mission.

THEOLOGY OF THE LAITY AND SYNODALITY AS A WAY OF REALIZING THE UNIVERSAL CALL TO HOLINESS
Summary
By virtue of Baptism, the believer receives grace from God, which supports him in the process of his sanctification. All people are called to holiness. It is a universal privilege granted by God to mankind. There are many ways to implement it. Among them, the post-Conciliar theology of the laity as well as the path of synodality rediscovered by Pope Francis deserve attention. Both are intended to help man achieve individual holiness of life as well as to realize its communion, community dimension.
The analysis of the problem contained in the title of the article belongs to theological issues both in the theoretical and practical dimension and has been closed in three points: theology of the laity as the way to holiness (1), synodality as the choice of a conscious path towards holiness (2) and holiness as the synodal task of the laity (3).

THE SYNOD IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN POLAND AS A FOUNDATION FOR THE EXPERIENCE OF COMMUNITY UNITY
Summary
In the autumn of 2021, the Synod on Synodality began in the Catholic Church under the theme "Towards a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission". The work of the synod was carried out at three levels: diocesan, national and continental, and was spread over three years (2021‒2023). The article includes analyses from the work carried out among the believers of the Catholic Church in Poland, both clergy and laity. The contents have been edited and presented in three points: the synodal events have been described using the historical method, and the speculative hermeneutic method has been used to highlight the content and its orientation in relation to the experience of the unity of the ecclesial community. The future will show to what extent the process of synodality has penetrated the mentality and contributed to the dynamism of the Church’s life.

FIDES QUAERENS DIALOGUM. THE PRIMACY OF THE BISHOP OF ROME IN THE DIALOGUE WITH THE CHURCHES OF THE EAST
Summary
The Second Vatican Council created a new perspective for the ecumenical dialogue with the Eastern Churches which are not in full unity with the Roman Catholic Church. The notion of the primacy of the Bishop of Rome is an important theological issue within this dialogue. The subject of primacy ought to be considered with reference to the mystery of the Church established by Jesus Christ. Since 1980 it is possible to speak of an institutionalized dialogue between the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox Church on world stage. It results in the documents prepared by mixed committees and jointly accepted. The office of St. Peter's Successor has been shaped throughout centuries and developing alongside the whole community of those who believe in Jesus Christ. The primacy of the Bishop of Rome is a service of togetherness and shows above all St. Peter's Successor's concern for the communion of all particular (local) Churches. The Roman Catholic Church emphasizes that the realization of the indicated task requires an authority and exact knowledge. It cannot be merely an honorary primacy devoid of jurisdiction. The Eastern Churches see the primacy of the Bishop of Rome as an honorary, and not jurisdictional, precedence. St. Peter's Successor is primus inter pares, the first among equal patriarchs. What is clearly visible here is the supremacy of the Vatican Council (synodality) over the office of the Pope. The contemporary appreciation of collegiality and synodality in the statements from the Roman Catholic magistrates and theologians' research on their implications may become a new impulse in the ecumenical dialogue with the Churches of the East.
